Are you aware of any risks that are associated with a pregnancy and what you can do to protect your teeth and gums? If you find yourself pregnant, you may start to neglect your oral health. This can prove disastrous as several oral health risks can increase while you’re pregnant. To help protect your smile, always make sure to continue to clean your mouth out daily.

Cleaning your mouth out daily includes brushing and flossing once a day as well. Because several health risks such as gum disease, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and premature delivery can all rise during a pregnancy due to your oral health, it is important to make regular visits to your dentist and let them know about any prenatal vitamins or medications you may be taking. They will be able to prescribe you an appropriate treatment plan to ensure your teeth and gums remain safe while you are pregnant.

As with all other times of your life, your diet can play a key role in your oral health. Your diet is especially important while you’re pregnant or on the verge of pregnancy and even after delivering your baby. To ensure your diet is effective, avoid unhealthy substances and sweets that are high in sugar and carbs and eat nutritious meals as an alternative.
