Autumn is a great time of the year to enjoy the changing weather with the holidays quickly approaching. It’s also a great time of year to think of your smile and dental health care. With the holidays full of festivities and goodies, it’s best to make sure you have strong and healthy teeth and gums to protect against any tooth decay or cavities. This can help you have the best oral health you deserve in time for the holidays. To help you do so, Dr. Brendan Loehr and our dental team here in Austin, Texas, encourage you to do a few things.
The first thing you should do is keep up on your daily dental regimen. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, rinse your mouth daily, and check in with your dentist for a checkup if you haven’t been in the last six months. These goals can help you prevent oral health issues and keep your smile healthy and strong. When cleaning your teeth and gums, remember to use a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and rinse that have been approved by the American Dental Association. They ensure these products’ safety and effectiveness.
Another important goal is to wear a mouthguard while participating in high-contact fall sports. This is important because many dental injuries occur while you are active. When you don’t wear a mouthguard, you are at a higher risk of suffering an oral injury, such as a knocked-out, cracked, and broken tooth or torn and injured oral tissues. You could even get a dislocated jaw if not careful. Please remember to wear a mouthguard if you participate in fall sports like football, soccer, or lacrosse.
